Sunny Day Real Estate is an American band from Seattle Seattle (pronounced /siːˈætl/ ( listen), us dict: sē·ăt′·əl) is a major city and seaport located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Situated in the western part of Washington state on an isthmus between Puget Sound (an arm of the Pacific Ocean) and Lake Washington, about 100 miles (160 km) south of the Canada –, Washington Washington (pronounced /ˈwɒʃɪŋ.tən/ ) is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Washington was carved out of the western part of Washington Territory which had been ceded by Britain in 1846 by the Oregon Treaty as settlement of the Oregon Boundary Dispute. It was admitted to the Union as the forty-second state in 1889. While not the first band to be classified as emo, they were instrumental in establishing the genre.[4] In 1994, the band released their debut album Diary on Sub Pop Records Sub Pop is a record label founded by Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman in Seattle, Washington in 1986. Sub Pop achieved fame in the late 1980s for first signing Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney and many other bands from the Seattle music scene. They are often credited with taking the first steps toward popularizing grunge music, and have continued to critical acclaim. However, shortly after releasing their second album LP2, the band broke up with members Nate Mendel and William Goldsmith joining the Foo Fighters Foo Fighters is an American rock band formed in 1995. Singer and guitarist Dave Grohl formed the group as a one-man project after the dissolution of his previous band, Nirvana, in 1994. Prior to the release of Foo Fighters in 1995, Grohl drafted Nate Mendel as bassist, William Goldsmith as drummer, and Pat Smear as guitarist to complete the group and Jeremy Enigk embarking on a solo career. In 1997, they regrouped long enough to record two more studio albums and a live album, but ultimately disbanded once again in 2001.[5] The band has reunited once again in 2009. Bassist Nate Mendel, who chose to remain with the Foo Fighters during the previous reunion in 1997, is now taking part in this reunion.[6]
