How much does the average punk rocker know or care about the history of anarchism and anarchist movements?
Q. There seems to be so much focus on liking the right bands and not selling out musically, rather than on having a solid understanding of the political ideas that the punk movement claims to advocate. So... What if a person is a brilliantly well-informed anarchist and can out-argue anyone in a political debate, but happens to like the musical sound of, say, Green Day or Good Charlotte?

A. Punk is merely a fashion in the United States. Over in Britain, they've got some really low-level political ideas that make our societal issues seem like an ice cream social in comparison. For example, it is spelled out by law how doctors must dress. I listened to the progressive punks, I've listened to the "School of Punk Rock Rediculosi". The haters (white trash race baiters, misogynists, blaxsploiters) are out there too, but they never made a dime off me. I also enjoy Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, Bach, Beethoven, Kraftwerk, Adrian Belew, the sound track from the game Tribes 2, and "The Fiends" album "We've Come For Your Beer". Every band and artist has a reason which makes them likable. Some people like hillbilly out of tune… [cont.]

Where can I buy a good temporary hair color in punk colors?
Q. I've agreed to color my hair a punk color for the girls in my G.S. Troop for reaching their cookie selling goal. Any suggestions on the best place to check (our local Wally World doesn't carry any, I've checked) and what the best brand to use is?

A. loreal pulse washes out in 8-10 shampoos, and has some interesting colors. and there's also those temporary color hair gels, but they make your hair really stiff. you can pick these up at usually any drug store or supermarket. the gel it might be better to go to a supercuts or cheap haircutting places usually carry it. hope that helps.

What are some good oldies to cover with a ska-punk twist?
Q. My band wants to cover some songs that haven't yet been played with a ska-punk twist. Any suggestions? So far we've come up with Everyday by Buddy Holly and Minnie the Moocher by Cab Calloway. Opinions on these selections?

A. There are two types of Ska punk bands, ones with brass such as Streetlight Manifesto and those without such as Five Hours. I'll list some that should have brass involved.
